Berlin exports photovoltaic modules to enterprises

Innovative PV sales strategies, system configurations and integration processes - including storage and demand management - are intrinsic components of the specialist expertise being developed in Germany. International companies wishing to sell photovoltaic products in the European Union must fulfill established quality and safety requirements.

Compared to solar thermal energy, there are far more photovoltaic systems registered in Berlin. As of July 7, 2023, 20,985 systems were in place, with a total installed capacity of around 230 MWp.

In Germany, solar photovoltaic modules are certified according to European Norm (EN) standards. Manufacturers must comply with the "safety class II" norms that certify the electrical safety of photovoltaic modules.

An analysis by the Institute for Applied Ecology (Öko-Institut) found that Germany already has significantly more potential for the expansion of ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) systems on open spaces than is needed under current requirement estimates for a completely renewable electricity system.

The study confirms that Berlin has a potential solar power share of 25 %, provided that better framework conditions are put in place at federal level, creative approaches are taken on site and a variety of instruments is applied (Masterplan Solarcity, only in German).

Annual installations of 12‒20 GW are required for the construction and increasingly for the ongoing renewal of this plant park, corresponding to approx. 40 million PV modules at a cost of several billion euros. PV production in Germany offers long-term security of supply with high environ-mental, social, and quality standards.
